Environmental Stewardship Program Brings Sustainability to Industry Forefront
RESTON, VA – The Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturers Association (KCMA) is pleased to announce it has been recognized by the National Association of Home Builders’ (NAHB) with the Green Building Award for Advocate of the Year (Group). KCMA was awarded this distinction at the 10th Annual NAHB National Green Building Conference held in New Orleans (May 11) for the accomplishments of its Environmental Stewardship Program (ESP), which promotes and recognizes environmentally sound practices in the cabinet industry.
Each year, the NAHB acknowledges organizations that are “bringing green to the mainstream” and grants the Advocate of the Year Award to the group that has “done the most to transform the residential green building market.” KCMA’s ESP has done just that by setting a standard for environmental responsibility and placing the need for environmentally sound practices at the forefront of the cabinet industry’s concerns.
“We are honored to have won this award and are proud to be leading the cabinet industry towards a sustainable future,” says Dick Titus, executive vice president, KCMA. “KCMA members recognize the importance of environmental responsibility, and we are confident ESP will continue to encourage cabinet manufacturers to employ environmentally sound practices.”
The ESP certifies cabinet manufacturers who demonstrate a commitment to the environment by meeting rigorous standards in the categories of air quality, product and process resource management, environmental stewardship and community relations, and subsequently, allows them to identify their products with the unique ESP seal. The industry is quickly taking notice of the program with 116 cabinet plants and brands already ESP certified.
Cabinet manufacturers are proud to be part of the green building movement and KCMA’s ESP has given them a vehicle to do so. “Though we have made significant progress already, KCMA continues to encourage cabinet manufacturers to get involved in ESP and work to strengthen the program to increase its positive impact on the environment,” says Titus.
